Retired Projects

Web technologies change often, which requires sustained effort to keep digital projects working and relevant to visitors. Considering these factors, we sometimes choose to remove a website rather than continue to maintain it. Below is a list of projects we have stopped maintaining. Where possible, we have kept underlying data and images accessible.

1889 Baist Atlas Map of Richmond, Virginia

The interactive atlas juxtaposed scanned pages from the 1889 Baist Atlas Map of Richmond with other historical images from VCU Libraries' Digital Collections, overlaid on present-day Google maps.

The Ancarrow Wildflower Digital Archive

Created in partnership with the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and the VCU Rice Rivers Center, this digital project presented a sample of the work of environmentalist Newton Ancarrow. From 1968 to 1971, Ancarrow documented and photographed over 400 species of wildflowers along the banks of the James River in Richmond, Virginia.
